My Birthday Bash at Sennia Piano Bar

On the occasion of my birthday this year, I decided to try something different upon coming across a lovely piano bar in Kaslik called Sennia.  The romantically decorated dinner venue offers a full nights worth of popular tunes in spanish, french, english and arabic as well as some of the tastiest menu entrees.  I loved how accomodating the management of Sennia were to allow me to prepare a set menu for my guests starting with sennia salad, nachos, quesadillas and curry samboza with squid followed by a main course of either chicken breast with spinach or beef filet with frou frou vegetables and mashed potatoes.

My favorite part of the night was the starter show which was a lovely performance by a pianist who literally doubled as Frank  Sinatra and Enrico Macias.  As the night continued on, the tempo picked up to include faster beats and even more variety of shows from arabic and english trendy tunes to a spectacular derbake (arabic drum) performance.   I preferred the softer part of the night but all in all, it was a night to be remembered thanks to the entertainment, the wonderful hospitality and the delicious food.

Cristobal Colon – Hamra

Hamra street still manages to dazzle me with life, uniqueness and culture.  Yesterday evening, Sara dragged Pierre and I to an alley off of Makdessi street (parallel to Hamra) to try the pub scene in Hamra.  Little did we know that by 10:00pm, this empty alleyway transforms into a bustling United Nations with pubs filled to the brim with laughter, stimulating conversation and a different nationality with every glance.

We chose to do our “catching up” at Cristobal Colon over lovely Sangrias and Spanish tapas.   I highly recommend the Sangria!  It’s one of my favorite drinks and although I have tried it so many different places, I have only truly enjoyed it at Solea (which is now closed) and Cristobal Colon.  The Spanish bar (named after Christopher Columbus) was cozy, drinks were very reasonably priced:  12,500 for cocktails and 10,000 for sangrias, food was reasonably priced as well between 11,000 and 20,000LL for a tapas, salad or entree.

Summer is here and the Rooftops are opening

Starting from now until June 1, the best rooftop bars and clubs will be opening one by one to give visitors from around the world a night to remember.  Unfortunately, these nights to remember don’t run cheap but it’s definitly worth the experience.  All located in the Downtown area, you can expect no less than good food, amazing beats and the best views of Beirut.

The Bar at Four Seasons Hotel

The Four Seasons Hotel opened in Beirut in January 2010.  Situated opposite St. Georges Marina, clients can enjoy breathtaking views and excellent service starting at $350 a night.  But the Four Seasons doesn’t really need an introduction, especially for those who appreciate luxury.

What I do want to introduce is “The Bar”  which caught my eye while visiting the hotel.  The Bar, adorned with Asian decor to the finest details, offers a comfortable venue for drinks, cigars and conversation.  Open from 5pm to 2am, this chic setting is ideal for entertaining business guests.

For any of you who don’t know where the Four Seasons in Beirut is, just look at the Beirut Skyline and you’ll see the beautiful white sail overlooking Beirut.  That would be it 😉

Happy Hour in Gemmayze

My friends and I have made a ritual of Saturday Happy Hour from 6 to 8 in Gemmayze.  The advantages of starting your saturday night at six are far and above any disadvantages you could give.

1.  You don’t face any traffic on the way down to Gemmayze

2.  It’s easy to find parking

3.  Drinks are half price

4.  You don’t have a problem finding a place at the bar

5.  By the time everyone arrives to Gemmayze, you’ve had most of your drinks, eaten dinner and are pretty HAPPY 🙂

Most of the pubs in Gemmayze serve happy hour so just take your pick and try it out.  My friends and I have tried many places and usually end up in Lord of the Wings by 8.  Yesterday we went to Dragonfly, a cozy little pub with friendly service and great cocktails.
